Nicholas Latifi: “It’s an incredible result for the team, and I’m so happy for us”
Amidst the chaos in the Hungarian Grand Prix, perhaps the best wellness story of the race was the first points of the season for Williams racing, with both Nicolas latifi and Georges russel finish in the top ten.
Not since 2019 German Grand Prix Williams had scored a point in Formula 1, and it was the first time they had scored points with both cars since the Italian Grand Prix from 2018.
Latifi climbed to third place in the opening stages after capitalizing on multiple incidents early in the race, and although he couldn’t keep clearly faster cars behind him, he was still able to finished eighth on the road for his first points in Formula 1. It became seventh later in the day when Sebastian vettel was disqualified.
“It’s an incredible result for the team, and I’m so happy for us,” he added. said Latifi. âThe team has been knocking on the points door for a few races now so getting both cars in the points and moving up to 8th in the championship is amazing.
âThe race on my side was very difficult to manage, obviously the start in the first corner was what sealed me. We struggled in qualifying yesterday, so to come away with such a result is better than anything we could have hoped for.
âOverall, it’s a great way to approach summer vacation. “
“I’m so happy for everyone and I’m a little at a loss for words” – George Russell
His teammate Russell came out of the pits in second place at the Hungaroring, but the team quickly told him to drop back down to seventh after incorrectly passing the line at the end of the pit lane.
However, despite this, he was also able to bring the car back inside the points in ninth position, with the Mercedes-Benz the protégé also took advantage of Vettel’s disqualification to climb to eighth place.
Russell felt his last stint in Hungary was the best of his career as he was involved in a battle which also included McLaren F1 Team‘s Daniel Ricciardo and Red bull racingchampionship contender Max Verstappen. He was able to keep both behind for his first points for Williams and only his second top ten of his Formula 1 career.
“I’m so happy for everyone and I’m a bit at a loss for words” Russell said. âIt was an incredible race. My last stint was probably the best of my entire career as I was fighting like crazy, fending off Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.
âI’m so happy for everyone because it’s been a big chore for the last two and a half years for me, and three and a half for the team, so these points are really deserved.
âWell done to Nicholas too, he got off to an incredible start and had a great race. By finishing eighth and ninth, we couldn’t have done much more today.
